What is Mystical Sobriety?
"Mystical Sobriety is an embodied reverberation of a deepening sense of Oneness that pervades the details of daily life. It is the process of realizing there is a wholeness that utterly transcends, even as it utterly permeates, the fragmentations of our lives."
-Dr. James Finley, former Trappist monk, contemplative teacher, author, psychotherapist, and public speaker known for his work on spirituality, mysticism, and healing.
What is Ecstatic Dance?
Ecstatic dance is a presence practice, a form of dance movement that aims to induce a state of ecstasy, characterized by an emotional and physical release through a profound moment of surrender. It is a free-form practice, where individuals move their bodies freely to music, without adhering to specific steps or choreography. The primary goal is to surrender to the mystery of rhythm and frequency, and allow the body to express itself spontaneously, leading to potentially meditative and euphoric experiences.
Benefits:
-Reduced stress and anxiety
-Increased self-awareness and emotional intelligence
-Improved mind-body-spirit connection
-Enhanced sense of unity and community
Overall, ecstatic dance is a powerful and expressive practice that invites individuals to surrender to their body’s innate guidance and wisdom, leading to a profound and transformative experience.
Through a brief guided exercise, Karen or a guest facilitator will invite you to drop into energetic awareness. Once you have the reference point for this energy, we begin to follow it. It may move you to dance. It may move you deeper within. It may not move you physically at all. That is not for us to decide. Our only job is to bring loving presence to the self and melt into the mystery. Allow the energy to take you and enjoy riding the waves.
What to bring:
-Water Bottle
Optional:
-Journal and pen
-Small towel (if you get sweaty)
-Potluck offering for our community snack table
What to wear:
-Comfy clothes that you can move in and make you feel good.
Rules:
-No drugs or alcohol
-No shoes
-No conversation on the dance floor
-No touching another without receiving consent first
-Honor the boundaries of yourself, one another, and of the space itself
Nothing opens the heart faster than music and dance. Music taps into frequencies that vibrate the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual layers of our being. Vibrating these layers allows us to keep our channel clear and flowing so that we can meet the world in the present moment without the baggage of our past or future.
Breath, sound, and movement are welcome and highly encouraged. The dance floor has seen it all. All of you is welcome. All is offered up to be healed and celebrated. I look forward to meeting you on the dance floor!
With love and presence,
Karen
